I’m a great believer in routine. I find that it keeps my life in order and helps me to plan my day in a constructive way. One of the little routines that I’ve been relying on for a few years now is the way that I wake up, get up and go straight away to switch on my trusty drip coffee machine ready for my morning brew. I’m fit for nothing until I’ve had that first cup of coffee. While I’m waiting for it to be ready, I prepare my lunch to take to work and get a bowl of cereal, and then by the time I’m done, my coffee is good to go. I pour a cup, pour the rest into my insulated cup to take in the car to work, and then sit at the table to drink it. Yes, it may sound like nothing much, but it’s a key part of my day.
So imagine my distress when my coffee machine unexpectedly stopped working two days ago. There I was, ready to pour my cereal into the bowl when suddenly there was a strange sound and a smell of smoke, and my poor old coffee machine was no more. I had to make do with instant coffee, which definitely wasn’t the same. I tried changing the fuse but to no avail. There was nothing I could do – my poor old machine had finally given up the ghost.
Now, they do say that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, and I don’t really want to learn to manage without my morning cup of coffee, so I’ve decided I need to buy a new coffee machine as soon as possible so I can get back into my old routine. I toyed briefly with the idea of getting a newfangled style of machine – perhaps one of those fancy espresso ones or one that uses pods to make your hot beverage, but finally, I decided no, the old ways are definitely the best. I need a new drip coffee machine for my kitchen collection so that I can enjoy mornings the way they’re meant to be.

I’ve been doing some research, trying to find the right coffee machine for me, and I’ve finally come up with a couple of serious contenders.
Certified for its high performance by the SCAA, this is a very highly rated drip coffee machine that is also seriously good looking and will look fantastic on my countertop. With its stainless steel body, it produces no unpleasant plastic taste and it can brew lots of coffee too – no less than 8 cups in under 6 minutes which is pretty impressive going – enough for even a serious coffee addict like me! The 1500 watt heater ensures that the water is raised to the perfect brewing temperature and then kept there for maximum flavor and the well-designed shower head ensures that the water covers the coffee grounds evenly for the best possible performance. The machine is protected by a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty for peace of mind and its auto shut off feature is great for saving energy. On the downside, it can’t be programmed in advance, so I can’t set it to make my coffee ready for me getting out of bed.
Bunn BT Velocity
Designed for the restaurant industry, Bunn’s products are seriously impressive and produce amazing results. This large 10 cup coffee maker is super fast, taking just 3 to 4 minutes to produce deliciously hot coffee. The quality and taste are outstanding, and the quality thermal carafe ensures that my hot beverage remains perfectly hot. Super easy to operate, this machine is protected by a three-year manufacturer’s warranty for complete peace of mind. On the downside, it has no programmable features and as the unit is pretty bulky it will take up quite a lot of room in my kitchen.
